Understanding the critical role of custom co-extruded plastic waterstops in concrete joints waterproofing.
Modern wastewater treatment plants (WWTP), primary clarifiers, and underground drainage tunnels demand robust sealing profiles. Concrete joints are structurally prone to shifting, requiring flexible PE (Polyethylene) and PVC water stops to stop water migration under severe hydrostatic pressure.
Extruding Polyethylene (PE) profiles requires extreme melt uniformity. Our advanced extrusion systems combine high shear single-screw and twin-screw technologies with custom-made calibrators to handle high molecular weight HDPE and LDPE materials without thermal degradation.
With tightening environmental regulations worldwide (EU Green Deal, US EPA regulations, Chinese Green Building Code), zero-seepage targets in chemical treatment reservoirs are mandatory. Plastic waterstops produced on our lines guarantee over 50 years of anti-seepage security.
In sewage treatment engineering, concrete structures face acidic, alkaline, and microbiologically active water. Standard rubber waterstops degrade quickly under high chemical exposure, making Polyethylene (PE) the material of choice due to its chemical inertia, low moisture vapor transmission rate, and excellent stress crack resistance (ESCR). Producing high-quality waterstops requires highly stable extrusion lines with closed-loop controls, ensuring rib dimensions and center bulb thickness remain within ±0.2 mm limits.
Discover the engineering depth behind Gwell's specialized profile extrusion systems.
Our water stop extrusion lines are designed to run PE, HDPE, LDPE, EVA, and plasticized PVC. High versatility is achieved using interchangeable tooling sets. A single production line can transition from producing 150mm flat waterstops to 500mm center-bulb ribbed variants with minimal downtime.
How China Gwell supplies resilient, high-volume production setups to globally diverse engineering hubs.
In chemical processing facilities, domestic wastewater, and mining leachate ponds, the concrete expansion joints are subjected to aggressive chemicals. The PE water stop provides a reliable barrier. Our extrusion line can process carbon-black additive compounds for optimized UV resistance.
Tunnels and subsea conduits experience enormous hydraulic pressures. The waterstops must integrate hydrophilic swelling rubber strips. Gwell offers advanced Co-Extrusion Waterstop Lines that co-extrude standard PE with a water-swellable elastomer in one automated run.
Leveraging our 3 massive production bases (spanning 866,000 m² of manufacturing area), we assemble systems with premium global parts (Siemens motors, Omron controls, JC-Times dies) at highly competitive costs, ensuring steady lead times and dependable project delivery.

HDPE waterstops provide excellent chemical resistance to acids, alkalis, and solvents, which is critical in municipal chemical wastewater basins. However, HDPE is rigid. LDPE or blended PE offers increased flexibility for expansion joints. PVC is highly flexible and cost-effective but has lower chemical resistance compared to PE and can leach plasticizers over decades of continuous immersion. Gwell designs specialized barrier screws to transition smoothly between these polymer classes.
Our co-extrusion lines utilize a secondary extruder connected to the main profiling die. It injects a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) or polyurethane-based hydrophilic swellable rubber directly into the designated anchor ribs of the waterstop. When exposed to water, these ribs expand, creating a secondary pressure seal that prevents bypassed fluid migration.
We combine high-performance vacuum calibrators with precise multi-stage water cooling baths. This controls the thermal contraction of the PE profiles. The speed of the tractor/haul-off is synchronized with the extruder's melt pressure, keeping outer rib profiles within ±0.2 mm to ensure a proper interlocking fit with concrete structural joints.
Our standard line configuration provides output capacities ranging from 150 kg/h to 450 kg/h. For wide profile production (widths up to 500mm or thicknesses over 10mm), we supply larger high-power single screw extruders with specialized feed section heating zones to prevent shear stress.
Yes. Our extrusion lines can be equipped with high-torque gearboxes and venting barrels, along with continuous hydraulic double-piston screen changers. This allows processors to run recycled PE flakes or regrind without losing pressure control or causing screen clogging.
