Explore our top-tier manufacturing systems designed for engineering resins and specialized industrial applications.
In modern plastics engineering, Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol (PETG) has established itself as an indispensable thermoplastic copolyester. By introducing CHDM (cyclohexanedimethanol glycol) into the polymer backbone, crystallization is inhibited, yielding an amorphous resin with remarkable transparency, impact resistance, and exceptional chemical durability.
As global industries pivot away from materials containing BPA, heavy plasticizers, or hazardous PVC structures, the demand for optical-grade PETG sheets has surged. Industries ranging from medical diagnostics packaging to high-end architectural glazing and smart touchscreens require high-yield, premium extrusion systems capable of producing perfectly uniform, stress-free polymers.
Extruding high-molecular-weight PETG resin demands rigorous process controls. The material is highly hygroscopic; moisture levels exceeding 0.02% will cause rapid hydrolytic degradation at elevated processing temperatures, leading to cosmetic bubbling, structural embrittlement, and a significant drop in physical properties. Traditional lines rely on intensive, energy-heavy desiccant pre-drying systems.
Modern co-extrusion technology has transformed this landscape. Advanced systems integrate multi-vented twin-screw systems or dry-free vacuum degasification setups. By executing deep vacuum devolatilization directly within the extruder barrel, processing lines bypass the pre-drying phase entirely, cutting energy consumption by up to 35% while protecting the polymer chains from thermal degradation.
GWELL Machinery integrates world-class precision machining with deep materials expertise to offer optimized production lines.
China GWELL Machinery is a high-tech enterprise dedicating to the manufacture of plastic extrusion lines for Film, Sheet and Profile. Relying on the powerful technology and equipment of group and innovative spirit , GWELL commits to the development of high-tech products and international market. “Expertise creates customers’ values” has always been the company’s operating philosophy.
Our manufacturing capacity spans across three state-of-the-art bases, enabling an annual output value exceeding 1,000 advanced extrusion lines. By using specialized CAD/CAM design workflows and heavy-duty Japanese and European CNC machining centers, we produce barrels, screws, and T-dies to extremely tight tolerances. This results in stable melt pressure, precise thickness profiles, and excellent optical properties for extruded PETG sheets.
Collaborating closely with premier domestic universities and polymer research institutes to develop high-performance machinery.
Providing turnkey solutions from initial engineering layout and formula design to field installation and commission.
Three major machinery bases providing a scale of over 1000 lines annually, securing rapid shipment and support.
The extruder is the core of the line. GWELL systems utilize high-output Single Screw Extruders with 30:1 to 33:1 L/D ratios, or co-rotating twin-screw units customized with low-shear screw configurations. High-shear screw profiles must be avoided to prevent shear-induced degradation of the copolyester chains, which causes yellowing and loss of toughness.
For vented systems, high-efficiency dry-type vacuum pumps pull up to 0.1MPa of vacuum directly at the barrel vent. This active degasification system extracts moisture and residual monomer volatiles, allowing direct feeding of un-dried PETG virgin pellets or scrap flakes without sacrificing optical clarity.
To achieve high gloss and flat surfaces, GWELL uses a heavy-duty three-roll calender system. The rolls are ground to a mirror finish and internally engineered with spiral flow channels for uniform heat transfer. We utilize oil or pressurized water temperature controllers to maintain individual roll temperatures within ±1°C.
Precise temperature calibration prevents internal stresses within the cooling PETG sheet. This is critical for post-processing applications like thermoforming and die-cutting, ensuring the sheets do not warp or crack during subsequent manufacturing.
To manage material costs, manufacturers often produce multi-layer structures. A feedblock distributes recycled PETG or cheaper PET variants into the core layer (B), encapsulated by virgin optical-grade PETG skin layers (A).
Our feedblocks deliver clean layer interfaces, ensuring the multi-layer sheet retains the scratch-resistance and printability of pure PETG, while utilizing recycled materials in the center to reduce costs.
An integrated PLC system manages the entire line, featuring closed-loop control of temperatures, line speeds, and melt pressures. An online thickness gauge (using beta-ray or laser sensors) continuously scans the sheet width.
If a thickness deviation occurs, the control system adjusts the thermal bolts on the automatic T-die, bringing thickness profiles back in tolerance without manual operator intervention.
From cleanrooms to urban architecture, PETG offers a versatile solution for modern manufacturing challenges.
The physical properties of PETG open up diverse applications across key industrial sectors:
Industrial Evolution & Sustainability:
The extrusion sector is increasingly adopting PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) polymers. Leading factories are engineering new extrusion screws optimized to run up to 70% recycled content without sacrificing final sheet clarity.
At the same time, smart manufacturing systems are implementing real-time predictive maintenance, monitoring oil temperature, motor current vibration, and calender load to identify wear before mechanical downtime occurs.
GWELL equipment is manufactured to rigorous international standards, ensuring safe, stable, and long-term operation.
